Devon Community Foundation is one of 58 Community Foundations across the UK and part of the Community Foundation Network.

Community Foundations began as a philanthropic movement in the USA in 1914 to tackle the impact of the recession. The first Foundation was established in the UK in the early 1980s.

Community Foundations across the UK manage over £200 million in endowed funds on behalf of donors and make over £70 million in grants each year. Last year there was a 60% rise in individuals, organisations and businsses setting up individuals 'funds' with their local Community Foundation to give effectively to their local community.

As a member of the Network, we draw on the experience and knowledge of other member Foundations and benefit from national strategic partnerships and initiatives set up by the Community Foundation Network. We also work closely with the other Community Foundations across the South West.

"Community Foundations allow donors and philanthropists to make a real difference locally where it matters. Through the Community Foundaiton Network, they can do so with the confidence and assurance that a highly professional infrastructure works to make best use of their generosity." Chief Executive of the Institute of Fundraising, Lindsay Boswell.
