This is a charitable trust with net assets approaching £100 million and an annual expenditure of £3 million. It has worked with Devon Community Foundation over many years, using the Foundation to help it make small grants in the County and supporting our development.
"Working with the Foundation has enabled us to support small charitable causes in Devon without incurring unnecessary costs. I do not have the free time to make personal visits to applicants and I am most appreciative of the way in which the local area committees have eased my burden, I am not aware of any other organisation within the County that I could have approached to carry out the Trust's wishes in this way." Tony Mead, Trustee
Devon Community Foundation has distributed the Local Network Fund on behalf of the Department for Education & Skills (DfES) since April 2002. The Fund supports groups helping disadvantaged children and young people in Devon and forms part of the Government's strategy to alleviate child poverty in England.
"DfES is very impressed with the way in which Devon Community Foundation operates the Local Network Fund. The administration is very thorough and effective and it is clear it is actively managed and monitored ....... DfES has been very impressed with the outreach and support functions which have been provided to help groups apply for funds." Andrew Spencer, National Manager, Local Network Fund.
Devon Community Foundation has worked with this donor for several years, helping them to make anonymous donations to local community projects.
"Devon Community Foundation's evaluation information and feedback on how money is used has been invaluable and has helped us decide if we wanted to make further donations to the same project ......... Their breadth of information about projects which need funding and their expertise and reassurance in the assessment process was invaluable."
The Community Council of Devon issued the Community Foundation a challenge to set up a Rural Fund for Devon. They promised us £50,000 if we could raise sufficient to match it over a two year period. The match was secured and the Fund is now up and running.
" Devon Community Foundation secured match funding for a Community Council challenge grant and has invested the money in a Fund which ensures a steady stream of income is available for making grants to support Devon's most rural communities. It's a great way to reach isolated people and to provide help in times of need. Over the years the Foundation will have the opportunity to grow this Fund to provide an even larger source of grant making income." Jay Talbot, Chief Executive, Community Council of Devon.
