“If you need to feed your child through a tube every hour it is diffi cult to celebrate Christmas like other families. For families with a child with life limiting conditions it is also a profoundly sad time with the realisation that Christmas marks another year gone,” says Julia at the Plymouth-based charity, Friends and Families for Special Children in Devon. Most people plan for a relaxed Christmas day. For families with a disabled child it can be one of the most stressful times of the year. The daily routine of caring for a disabled child goes on unchanged yet many of the support networks during term time disappear. Christmas activities at the charity include a party for families and a lunch for parents. The group is also arranging a Pantomime trip for its young carers.
Devon Community Foundation has supported 276 Groups this year helping people with disabilities and their families.
