A massive thank you to everyone who supported our Christmas Unwrapped Appeal which in total raised in excess of £30,000.
Our particular thanks to Cllr Christine Marsh, Chairman of Devon County Council and Elizabeth D’Erlanger who braved sub-zero temperatures to undertake the Royal Marines Challenge endurance course at Woodbury Common.
Thanks also to those who contributed their Winter Fuel Allowance payment – including Ann Widecombe, Bishop Michael and The Countess and Earl of Arran. The £250 standard payment from the government goes to each household, regardless of need and is a simple way to help those in greater need.
Corporate donations were received from Mole Valley Farmers and Viridor, whilst HSBC and Otter Nurseries backed the campaign by making collecting tins available in branches. Over £3,470 was raised through donations from Western Morning News readers.
Every donation of every size is greatly appreciated and will go to support volunteers on the frontline helping those in Devon who might otherwise fall through the gaps - including isolated elderly people, young carers, those who are homeless, those with mental health problems and children and families living below the poverty line. Look out for news of Christmas Unwrapped grants on the web-site.
Martha Wilkinson, Chief Executive of Devon Community Foundation adds, “We have been overwhelmed by support for the Christmas Unwrapped Appeal and would like to thank everyone for their generosity.”
