Celebrity chefs Peter Gorton and Chris Tanner are joining with the BBC's David Fitzgerald and Channel Four secret millionaire, Marcelle Speller on 11th February 2011 to stage the first ever ‘I Love My Local Community' Celebrity Showcase Lunch at University College Plymouth St Mark & St John (UCP Marjon).
The unique event will combine a delicious three course meal, created and showcased by Peter and Chris and made from local produce provided free by Langage Farm and Plymouth Gin, with a chance to find out more about Plymouth's voluntary groups and how your business can support them and put Corporate Social Responsibility into action.
David Fitzgerald comments, "This is an amazing opportunity to see some of Devon's best chefs in action, taste their food and have a great business lunch whilst also supporting and working in partnership with small local charities and groups in the process."
Marcelle Speller, who sold her successful Holiday Rentals website in 2005 and has used her fortune to recently launch www.localgiving.com, will also be on hand to speak about her experiences as the Secret Millionaire in Plymouth and to showcase the work of small voluntary and community groups in the City.
Working with Devon Community Foundation, over 50 Plymouth based voluntary groups have recently signed up to www.localgiving.com to showcase their work and enable local people and businesses to direct their giving to local causes which matter to them and the City.
Main sponsors for the event are UCP Marjon, who as one of the Plymouth's leading educational establishments plays a key role in building partnerships between the educational, voluntary and business sectors to create a City which is a great place in which to do business. Those attending will also be able to tour the College's new Centre for Partnership and Professional Development.
Professor Margaret Nobel, Principal of UCP Marjon comments, "Community is at the heart of UCP Marjon, and has been since 1840 when we were established as a Church of England Voluntary College. Our engagement with the local community, whether through training, professional development programmes, partnership, advice or use of our facilities, is a vital part of our work. This is an ethos not only shared by our staff, but our students as well. Through the help of our Volunteering Coordinator, our students have been very involved in community focused programmes developed at UCP Marjon such as the Arrow project and Give to Sport. We are delighted to be sponsoring this outstanding event."
Other sponsors for the event include LGF Marketing and PR, Castles Kitchens and Optima.
Tickets cost £25 (which includes a charity contribution) and are available from laura@devoncf.com or call 01884 235887. Must be booked and prepaid by 30th January.
