Creating an 'In Memory Fund' is a wonderful way to commemorate the life of a loved one and leave a lasting legacy of support to local causes which were dear to them in their lifetime.

You can set up an In Memory Fund which begins annual grant making immediately or you can build your In Memory Fund over time.

Friends and family can make donations to your In Memory Fund in a way which is easiest for them. Perhaps you would like us to provide donation slips or freepost envelopes to enable people to donate in lieu of flowers.  You can even set up a Just Giving webpage (www.justgiving.com) in memory of your loved one so that friends and colleagues can fundraise on behalf of their In Memory Fund.

Leaving a Legacy

More and more people are leaving gifts to say thank you to the local community or to help those less fortunate than themselves.

Devon Community Foundation offers an ideal way to leave a legacy in your Will that will be carefully administered according to your instructions for generations to come. It will associate your name with the community you loved forever.

You can choose between leaving a legacy to set up your own Named Fund  (Give in your name)  or to make a donation to our existing Small Grants Fund targeting a particular area of the county. You should usually consult your solicitor about the exact wording, but please call us as well to discuss your plans.

There are a number of ways in which you can leave a legacy to the Foundation and remember Inheritance Tax is not payable on gifts to charity saving your estate up to 40% in tax:

Pecuniary - A gift of a specific sum of money.
Specific - A gift of a specific item - such as property.
Residuary - All or a share of the residue of your estate.
Reversionary - A useful way of providing for a partner or friend for their lifetime, whilst ensuring the underlying asset passes to your chosen charity on their death.

Making your Will - We advise you to use a professional adviser such as an accountant or solicitor to draft your will, this guarantees that your wishes will be carried out. If you have already made a will it is easy and inexpensive to add a Codicil naming the charity of your choice and the amount of the gift.

If you have decided to remember Devon Community Foundation with a legacy and would like further information or advice, please contact Martha on 01884 235887.
